Network Services for Students, Guest, Faculty and Staff
All HU offices and campus dorm rooms are typically equipped with a minimum of 2 network data jacks that can be used to access the Hampton University network and the Internet. The hard-wired network provides secure, high-speed access to the HU network drives, networked printing services, internal web sites (Intranet), email services, and the Internet. If you are at a location that requires the installation of a data jack, please submit your request. If your request is urgent, you may choose to supplement it with an email to the Network Operations Center (NOC) at Networkops@hamptonu.edu. Once initiated, these request are typically resolved within 2 to 3 business days.

All areas of the main campus have wireless coverage. HU offers three unique wireless networks to satisfy your Wi-Fi craving—Wireless Pirate 1, Wireless Pirate 2 and the HU_guest wireless network. Each network provides expansive indoor and outdoor coverage on HU’s campus, so they’re available everywhere you are—i.e., classrooms, offices, libraries, residence halls, eateries, etc. A fourth network, HU Events, is available for university guests during special events on the main campus. If your device is not able to access any of the wireless networks, contact the ATM Helpdesk located on the 5th floor of the Harvey library. They can assist with registering your device(s) and getting them connected on to the HU network. Device registration instructions can also be found at: 18.104.22.168

Remote Network Access (VPN)
VPN Secure Access
A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, such as the Internet. It provides a secure connection to the University’s network for users while off campus. VPN connections allow members of the HU community to securely access their files on the HU network from an off-site connection or an on-campus independent wireless connection. Due to certain monitoring limitations, VPN connections are granted on a case by case basis. If you have been granted VPN access, please follow the provided instructions for installing the Cisco VPN client.
When off campus, use the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, a WebVPN component, to establish a secure remote connection with your office computer or access restricted resources on the HU network.
Please note that users cannot access network folders with a wireless connection unless they connect with VPN first (see the Remote Network Access section below).
